A New Chapter for our Faith & Community Network
One of the things I love most about working at Housing Justice is the huge variety of organisations we get to work alongside. Seeing the way these organisations have adapted to the changing needs and realities of their communities has been inspiring. We are no longer just the ‘night shelter network’. We are now a complex mix of shelters, emergency accommodation, supported accommodation, day centres and community projects – all responding to homelessness in different ways, with their communities at the heart of what they do.
The network has changed a lot over the years, as have the support needs of the organisations within it. So, it felt like the right time to take a step back and think about how our membership offer could change alongside those needs.
This past year, we have been doing just that: looking at what it means to be part of the Faith & Community Network, and how we can make membership clearer, easier to access and, most importantly, genuinely useful to the organisations within it.
And now we are very excited to launch our new, revamped Faith & Community Network Membership!
So, what is changing?
At its heart, the membership is about connection, practical support and development. We want to make it easier for organisations to connect with others doing similar work, learn from each other and access support from Housing Justice when they need it.
We know that organisations across the network often face similar challenges, whether that is developing policies and practice, finding funding, supporting staff and volunteers or responding to changing needs in their communities. We want membership to make it easier to get practical support with those challenges.
We also want the network to be something that members actively shape. There is a huge amount of knowledge and experience across the network, and sometimes the most useful answer to a challenge comes from another organisation that has already grappled with the same thing. By being part of the membership, organisations can draw on that collective experience, but also contribute their own learning and help strengthen practice.
Alongside our existing support, we have introduced some new ways to make those connections easier, including a new members’ portal and WhatsApp group. The portal will make it much easier to access all aspects of your membership, bringing together resources, events, trainings and more all in one place. So hopefully there will be a little less searching through old emails to find that resource or event you vaguely remember seeing!
We have also looked at how we can make membership accessible to organisations of very different sizes, introducing an income-based fee structure with free membership for smaller organisations.
There is much more to the new offer than I can fit into one blog, so we have put together a Membership FAQs covering what is included in the membership, who it is for, costs and how the new portal will work.
More than anything, we want this next chapter of the Faith & Community Network to make it easier for organisations to connect, share, learn and develop together.
We’re really excited to see what it becomes and hope you are too.
