Citadel is a homelessness prevention project which supports people experiencing, or at risk of homelessness, to find and/or sustain their tenancies and establish a home. We work with volunteers to achieve this.

👩🌾🏡Citadel Cornwall, alongside the amazing team at YWAM (Youths With A Mission), helped one of our supported people clear and tidy their garden space.
The supported person had moved into the housing association property in June and was informed that it was his responsibility to keep the garden tidy. With mobility and financial restrictions, this wasn’t achievable on his own.
Two volunteers from YWAM had previously signed up to become volunteers in Citadel to support people 1-2-1, however whilst waiting for a match, they offered their gardening services that they do as a team.
On a wet Friday morning, 5 volunteers and the Citadel coordinator got to work, clearing the garden of weeds, overgrown grass, and trees that were starting to take over the space. 4 hours of work later, and the team had completely cleared and reset the garden. As the grass grows back, it’ll give the supported person a space to get outside and relax, alongside easier management of the garden in future.
