Housing Justice Faith & Community Network

The Housing Justice Faith & Community Network is made up of a wide range of faith and community-based projects, working to alleviate rough sleeping and homelessness in their local communities. Housing Justice’s Faith & Community Development Team provide guidance and resources to this vital part of the homelessness sector, because we believe that from small projects, big change happens.

How does Housing Justice support Projects within the network

The Faith & Community Development Team support this network by:

– Providing Expert Advice: Offering tailored guidance to help projects navigate challenges and enhance their services.

– Securing Funding: Assisting projects in accessing essential funding opportunities to sustain and expand their work.

– Delivering Training and Resources: Equipping projects with the knowledge and tools to implement best practices in their operations.

– Facilitating Collaboration: Creating spaces for shared learning and innovation across the network.

– Supporting Development: Supporting projects to broaden their services, such as day centres, befriending schemes, and tenancy sustainment, to meet diverse community needs.

– Move-on Support: In London we also provide practical move-on support for night shelter guests through the London Lettings Network.

We also support organisations that operate day centres, move-on or temporary accommodation, and longer-term support for people who have experienced homelessness.

What Are Night Shelters?

We have a number of night shelters within our network who make a huge impact on reducing  rough sleeping across the UK. Night shelters offer emergency accommodation with rapid access and a low barrier to entry. These facilities, often led by voluntary, faith, and community organisations, provide safe, welcoming spaces and support to those experiencing rough sleeping or at imminent risk of rough sleeping.

Key Features of Night Shelters:

 – Short-Term Accommodation: Providing temporary stays ranging from one night to several months.

– Low Barrier to Entry: Accessible to individuals who may face obstacles accessing traditional housing services, such as being free.

– Holistic Support: Many shelters offer tailored services such as caseworking, healthcare referrals, employment assistance, and recovery support.

– Flexible Spaces: Accommodation ranges from communal areas to individual rooms, depending on the facility.
