Supporting non-UK nationals

The Housing Justice Hosting project is powered by volunteer ‘hosts’ – inspirational individuals who make their spare room available for some of the most vulnerable and marginalised people in our society. We support people from a migrant background, who are currently in the UK, experiencing destitution and homelessness.

Housing Justice help you to open your home and welcome guests in a safe and supported way. See Frequently Asked Questions for information about the support you will receive as a Housing Justice Host.

Steps to become a host

  • Register your interest.
  • A member of the Housing Justice team will contact you for an initial chat.
  • Complete & return our Host Application form.
  • A member of the Housing Justice team will visit you in your home for a Home Assessment.
  • DBS check completed for all adults living in your household.
  • Online host induction session & access to Host Handbook.

You are now ready to host your first guest!

  • Housing Justice will email you a brief summary of a potential guest that we think will be a suitable match for your home & circumstances.
  • If you are happy to proceed, we will arrange an introduction meeting with your prospective guest via Zoom.
  • If both you and the guest are happy to meet in person, we will arrange a Home visit facilitated by a Housing Justice team member, offering the chance to get to know each other and talk through the Hosting Agreement together.
  • After a 24 hour ‘cooling period’, if everyone is happy to proceed – a move-in date will be arranged.
  • You will receive ongoing support as a member of our vibrant Host Network.

We work hard to give our hosts the time and space to make informed decisions at each stage of your hosting journey. The typical timeframe for welcoming your first guest is between 6-8 weeks from registration.

We work according to your availability so please don’t hesitate to register your interest, even if you are not available to start hosting immediately.
