Who is eligible for winter vaccinations?
People experiencing homelessness remain a key eligible group for the winter vaccination programme. This includes:
- People rough sleeping
- People staying in homeless hostels
- People using night shelters
- Van dwellers
Eligible people can book online or call 119.
How can providers support with vaccination uptake?
UKHSA and Groundswell have developed a range of resources to support vaccine uptake within homeless communities which can be downloaded or ordered free of charge.

Services are encouraged to
- Display vaccination posters and leaflets in communal areas
- Support guests and service users to book and attend vaccinations where possible
- Share resources with staff to support with these conversations, including the new toolkit
- Create local links with healthcare providers to encourage in-reach and out-reach
New Multi-agency toolkit launched to increase vaccine uptake
UKSHA have published a new multi-agency toolkit for planning and delivering vaccinations to people experiencing homelessness.
The toolkit brings together evidence, research, best practice, national guidance and practical resources that will support the commissioning, planning and delivery of vaccination programmes for our communities.

Toolkit Launch Webinar – 27th October
Join UKHSA colleagues from the Health Equity and Inclusion Health (HEIH) and Immunisation Programmes Divisions for the launch of a new toolkit and co-produced communications materials to support local systems in improving vaccination uptake among people experiencing homelessness.
The webinar will share practical approaches that local teams can use to increase vaccination in this underserved population.
