Boost Up: Now Taking Referrals

Many of you will be aware of Boost Up, an Independent Charity started several years ago to address the severe lack of housing options for disadvantaged young people deemed non-priority by their local council.

Over the last 3 years, Boost Up has provided the following support to homeless individuals under 35:

  • Searching for Private Rental Market properties that they can access, arranging viewings, and liaising with Landlords/Agents.
  • Providing Rental Top-Ups for up to 12 months to cover the disparity between the Shared Accommodation Rate and the Market Rate.
  • Providing a Non-Profit Rental Guarantee system.
  • Hands-on support getting settled into an area.
  • Dealing with Benefits and helping them look for and obtain work.

We’re now excited to announce that Boost Up has officially become part of Housing Justice and will exist as an extension to our Lettings Network system, providing additional support to those under 35 who find it difficult to find properties they are eligible for due to short supply.

Our support will relate to helping clients identify and view properties that they will be eligible for based on their financial circumstances, as well as providing a financial package to help them obtain it. If they already have a housing caseworker, we will work alongside them, not replace them. Our support will be provided mostly remotely via Email, Text and Phone calls but we will be very accessible to the client.

We believe it will be particularly effective for services that are over capacity or do not have a dedicated housing worker.

Referrals for our service are open from today. A Caseworker or the Client themselves can make a referral.

Referral criteria for clients are as follows:

  • Eligible for public funds
  • 18-34
  • Engaging with a project within the Night Shelter Network [Listed here]:
  • They are staying at your Emergency Accommodation project or are homeless/rough sleeping.
  • They are only looking for a property for themselves [we cannot assist couples or those with dependent children]
  • Have been found ‘Not in Priority Need’ or have no realistic grounds to be deemed ‘Priority Need’ by their Local Authority.

Initially, we are requesting a limit of one referral per organisation, but please do let us know if you have further clients who would be particularly suitable if there’s additional capacity, and roughly how many.
