HJC Responds to the Welsh Gov’s Anti-Racist Action Plan

November 8, 2024

The Welsh Government has updated their Anti-Racist Action Plan. Nicola Evans, our Director for Housing Justice Cymru responded by saying this:

📢 “We welcome the publication of the Welsh Government’s refreshed Nation of Sanctuary plan, as part of the Anti-Racist Wales Action Plan. We share the commitment making Wales a more just, anti-racist and equitable society for all, and a welcoming place for people seeking sanctuary. We are pleased that Housing Justice Cymru’s expertise in hosting and delivering accommodation solutions for people with no recourse to public funds has been reflected within the Plan.

“The Action Plan’s commitment to developing provision for people with no recourse to public funds, who are most at risk of destitution and exploitation, is welcomed. At Housing Justice Cymru, we are clear that you cannot end homelessness in Wales without ending homelessness for people seeking sanctuary. We are pleased to be working with our partners to develop new models of accommodation for people seeking sanctuary, including those who are destitute and we will be launching our report into this on 19th November at the CHC Annual Conference.”📅

We look forward to sharing our new report, reviewing Housing Association engagement in meeting the housing and support needs of people seeking sanctuary in Wales soon.
